Installation & Connections

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place the player on a stable, level surface near your TV and audio system.

  1. Video Connection: Connect the player to your TV using the included composite AV cable (yellow for video) or, for better quality, use Component Video cables (green, blue, red) or an S-Video cable.
  2. Audio Connection: Connect the white and red audio cables to your TV or audio system. For digital audio, connect a coaxial cable from the DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL) jack to your receiver.
  3. Power: Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC outlet.

WARNING! Ensure all equipment is turned off before making connections. Do not place heavy objects on the player.

First-Time Setup

After connecting, power on the player and your TV.

  1. Initial Display: The Sony logo will appear. The player may enter standby mode.
  2. Select Language: Press the SETUP button on the remote. Use the arrow buttons to select your desired menu language (e.g., ENGLISH).
  3. TV Type: In the SETUP menu, select the appropriate TV screen type (4:3 or 16:9) and video output (e.g., COMPONENT, VIDEO).
  4. Progressive Scan: If your TV supports it, enable PROGRESSIVE in the video settings for a sharper picture.

Remote Control Operation

Remote Control (RMT-D197A): Insert two AAA batteries. Point the remote at the player's sensor.

Playing Discs

  4. Use PLAY, PAUSE, STOP, SKIP, and SEARCH to control playback.

CAUTION! Never open the cabinet. Refer servicing to qualified personnel only. Keep the ventilation openings free of obstructions.
