Installation

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place the player on a stable, level surface near your TV and audio system.

  1. Connect Video: Use the included composite (yellow) cable, or for best quality, use Component (Y/Pb/Pr) or S-Video cables (not included).
  2. Connect Audio: Use the included red/white audio cables. For digital surround sound, connect the coaxial or optical digital output to your receiver.
  3. Connect Power: Plug the AC power cord into a standard 120V AC outlet.
  4. Insert Batteries: Install two AA batteries into the remote control.

WARNING! Ensure the player is placed in a well-ventilated area. Do not block ventilation slots.

First-Time Setup

Power on the player and your TV. Set your TV to the correct video input (e.g., VIDEO 1, COMPONENT).

  1. Initial Display: The Sony logo or a blue screen may appear.
  2. Set Language: Press SETUP on the remote. Use the navigation buttons to select "Language Setup" and choose your preferred menu language.

Connecting to Your TV & Audio System

For optimal performance, use the highest quality connection your equipment supports.

  1. Best Video (HDTVs): Use Component Video cables (Y, Pb, Pr).
  2. Good Video: Use S-Video cable.
  3. Standard Video: Use the included yellow Composite video cable.
  4. Audio to TV: Use the included red/white audio cables to TV inputs.
  5. Audio to Receiver: For Dolby Digital/DTS, use a digital coaxial or optical cable to your AV receiver.

Tip: Match the colors of the cables to the jacks on the player and your TV/receiver. Select the corresponding input on your TV.

Playing Discs

  1. Turn on your TV and audio system. Set TV to correct input.
  2. Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray. Place a disc label-side up. Press OPEN/CLOSE or PLAY to close the tray.
  3. Playback starts automatically for most DVDs. Use the remote for control.
    • PLAY: Starts playback.
    • PAUSE (II): Pauses playback. Press again to resume.
    • STOP (X): Stops playback. Press PLAY to resume from the stop point if "Last Memory" is active.
    • SKIP (|<< / >>|): Skips to previous/next chapter or track.
    • SEARCH (<< / >>): Fast reverse/forward during playback.
  4. Eject: Press OPEN/CLOSE. Remove the disc when the tray opens.

WARNING! Do not move the player while a disc is spinning. Do not use damaged or irregularly shaped discs.

Advanced Playback Features

Care & Maintenance

Unplug the player from the AC outlet before cleaning.

  1. Cleaning the Cabinet: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn stains, dampen the cloth with water and wring it out thoroughly.
  2. Cleaning the Lens: Do not attempt to clean the laser lens yourself. Consult a qualified service technician.
  3. Cleaning Discs: Hold discs by the edges. Wipe from center to edge with a clean, soft cloth.

CAUTION! Never use solvents such as benzene, thinner, or commercial cleaners, as they may damage the cabinet.
