Remote Control Layout

Specifications

Initial Setup & Battery Installation

Power on remote; follow steps to pair with device.

  1. Open battery compartment: Slide cover on back of remote.
  2. Insert batteries: Place two AAA batteries, observing correct polarity (+/-).

  4. Point remote: Aim the front (IR lens) directly at the device's IR sensor.

CAUTION! Do not mix old and new batteries or different types. Remove batteries if not using for extended periods.

Programming for Sony Devices

Most Sony devices will work automatically. If not, use code search:

  1. Turn on the device you want to control (e.g., TV).
  2. Press and hold the device button (e.g., TV) and the POWER button simultaneously until the remote's indicator light flashes twice.
  3. Enter the 3-digit code for your device (refer to code list in appendix or Sony website). The indicator light flashes twice if code is accepted.
  4. Point the remote at the device and press POWER to test. If device turns off, programming is successful. If not, repeat steps with another code.

Tip: Common Sony TV codes start with 001, 002. Blu-ray player codes often start with 005.

Learning Function (For Non-Sony Devices)

To teach the RMT-D181A a command from another remote (e.g., for a cable box):

  1. Place both remotes facing each other, 2-3 cm apart.
  2. On the RMT-D181A, press and hold the LEARN button (if dedicated) or press SETUP until indicator lights.
  3. Press the button on the Sony remote you wish to program (e.g., AUX POWER).
  4. When indicator flashes, immediately press and hold the corresponding button on the original remote (cable box remote). Hold until the Sony remote's indicator flashes twice.
