Initial Setup & Battery Installation

Power on the remote by installing batteries.

  1. Open battery compartment: Slide cover on back of remote.
  2. Insert batteries: Place two AAA batteries with correct polarity (+/-) as indicated.
  3. Close compartment: Replace cover securely.
  4. Test remote: Point at device and press POWER to verify operation.

WARNING! Do not mix old and new batteries or different types. Remove batteries if not used for extended periods to prevent leakage.

Button Layout & Functions

Top section: POWER, Device buttons (TV, DVD, BD, AUDIO, SAT/CABLE). Center: Navigation pad (Up/Down/Left/Right, OK/ENTER), MENU, GUIDE, OPTIONS, RETURN, HOME. Lower section: Numeric keypad (0-9), CH+/-, VOL+/-, MUTE, INPUT, SUBTITLE, AUDIO, RECALL, INFO/DISPLAY. Special buttons: LIGHT (backlight), SETUP (programming).

Device Buttons: Press to switch control between different equipment (e.g., press TV to control television, then AUDIO to control sound system).

Backlight: Press LIGHT to illuminate buttons for 5 seconds; press again to extend.

Programming the Remote

To control a device, program the remote with the correct manufacturer code.

  1. Turn on the device you want to control (e.g., TV).
  2. Press and hold SETUP on remote until device button (e.g., TV) flashes twice.
  3. Enter 3-digit code for your device (see code list in manual). Device button flashes once if accepted.
  4. Point remote at device and press POWER to test. If device turns off, programming is successful.
  5. If not, repeat steps 2-4 with another code until device responds.

Tip: Common Sony TV codes: 001, 002, 003. For other brands, refer to supplied code list.

Using the Learning Function

Learn commands from another remote for buttons not pre-programmed.

  1. Place both remotes facing each other, 2-3 cm apart.
  2. Press and hold SETUP until device button flashes twice.
  3. Press device button (e.g., TV) once; it will flash slowly.
  4. On RMT-D185P, press button you want to program (e.g., INPUT).
  5. On original remote, press corresponding button to transmit command. Learning indicator flashes rapidly, then stops.
  6. Test learned button by pointing at device and pressing it.

NOTE: Some buttons (POWER, SETUP) may not be learnable. Learning may not work with all remotes.

Controlling Multiple Devices

Remote can store settings for up to 5 device types.

  1. Program each device: Follow programming steps for TV, DVD, etc., using respective device button.
  2. Switch between devices: Press corresponding device button (TV, DVD, BD, AUDIO, SAT/CABLE) before using commands.
  3. Volume lock: To always control TV volume regardless of selected device, program TV code first and enable volume lock in setup (if supported).

Example: Watch DVD: Press DVD button to control player, press TV button to adjust volume.

Care & Maintenance

Use soft, dry cloth to clean remote. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.

CAUTION! Battery leakage can damage remote. Dispose of batteries properly according to local regulations.
