Initial Setup & Battery Installation

Power on the remote by installing batteries.

  1. Turn the remote over and slide open the battery compartment cover.
  2. Insert two AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) markings.
  3. Close the cover securely.
  4. Point the remote at your device and test basic functions like POWER.

WARNING! Use only AAA batteries. Do not mix old and new or different types of batteries. Remove batteries if not using for extended periods.

Programming the Remote

Program the remote to control your specific devices.

  1. Turn on the device (TV, DVD player, etc.) you wish to control.
  2. On the remote, press and hold the desired MODE button (e.g., TV) until the indicator light blinks twice.
  3. Enter the 3-digit code for your device brand using the numeric keypad. (Refer to the code list in the appendix or online.)
  4. The indicator light will blink twice if the code is accepted. Test the POWER button to see if the device turns off.
  5. If it doesn’t work, repeat steps 2-4 with the next code for your brand.

Auto Code Search: If you don't have a code, use auto search: Hold MODE button until light stays on, then press POWER repeatedly until device turns off, then press OK to save.

Using the Learning Function

Teach the remote commands from your original remote.

  1. Place both remotes facing each other, 1-2 inches apart.
  2. On the RMT-VB310U, press and hold the LEARN button (if dedicated) or enter learning mode via a key combination (see specific instructions).
  3. Press the button on the Sony remote you wish to program (the indicator will blink slowly).
  4. Immediately press the corresponding button on the original remote (pointing its IR emitter at the Sony remote's learning sensor).
  5. The Sony remote's indicator will blink quickly, then stay on, confirming the command was learned.
  6. Repeat for other buttons. Exit learning mode.

CAUTION! Learning may not work for all commands (e.g., RF signals, complex macros). Ensure a stable environment without strong IR interference.

Operating Your Devices

Once programmed, use the remote normally.

  1. Select the device mode by pressing TV, AUDIO, DVD, etc. The remote will now send commands to that device.
  2. Use the navigation buttons to browse menus.
  3. Use numeric keys for direct channel entry.
  4. Use playback controls for DVD/Blu-ray players or media streamers.
  5. Volume and Mute typically control the currently selected audio device or TV.

Tip: Some buttons (like INPUT or MENU) may need to be learned from the original remote if the pre-set code doesn't support them.

Resetting the Remote

To clear all programming and restore factory defaults.

  1. Open the battery compartment.
  2. Locate the small RESET button (may be inside the compartment).
  3. Use a paperclip to press and hold the RESET button for about 5 seconds.
  4. Reinstall batteries. All learned codes and settings will be erased.

Alternatively, you can remove batteries for more than 1 minute to reset volatile memory (this may not clear all pre-set codes).

Care & Maintenance

Unload batteries before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquids or abrasive cleaners.

CAUTION! Avoid extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight. Keep away from water and dust.
